Clays

Choosing

The studio has several types of clay that differ in colour, texture and how they behave. A sample board with fired examples is on site. When hand-building you can combine clays, on the wheel it is easier to stick to one. Remember which clay your piece is made of, you will need it at glazing to read the sample board.

Amount

  • The amount of clay per hour of reservation depends on the activity. Weigh it on the scale in the studio.
  • Extra clay can be bought and paid for at the terminal.
  • The kiln limits the size of a piece. The limit is listed with the activity, a larger piece cannot be fired.

Handling clay

  • Always take from opened bags first, so several bags do not dry out at once.
  • After taking clay, close the bag tightly and tape it. Dried-out clay is useless for the next visitor.
  • Scraps, failed pieces and slip go into the recycling box for that clay. The boxes are labelled, do not mix clays. We process and reuse it.
  • Do not rinse clay down the sink, it blocks the drain.

Exact amounts and prices are listed under self-service activities.
